Brooklyn-based bicycle makers Vanmoof have been preoccupied with attaining perfection in commuter rides for a long time, but they seem to have actually done it with the Vanmoof 5.7 bicycle. Since function, not form, is the main point of focus for this bike, its design has been stripped down to bare minimalism. There are no added features onto the bicycle, save for what a regular urban cyclist would require, in order to safely reach their destination. As such, the Vanmoof 5.7 comes equipped with a built-in seat clamp, flat handlebars and LED lights incorporated into the bike, in order to enhance the biker’s visibility. And it’s not strictly about safety on the roads: the manufacturers also had anti-theft safety on their minds when they produced this design. This is why they co-opted the skill and talent of Germany’s Arbus, who integrated a top-tube lock into the design.
